Part 2 of the process work.

This is when I assembled the product together, glue and stitch the fabrics together. There was an excess space between the main body and the projector, therefore I added foam and fabric to hold things together.

So I tested on the placement of the inner components to make sure it fits perfectly into the object and also decided on the final design and the pattern of the object. I also used the real components and measured their sizes to make sure everything fits and also decide on the measurements of the object. the user testing also helped me decide on which placement I am using and I think it helped as well with the customer being comfortable with using the product.

So I made prototypes of the shapes I like the most and also drew orthographic and real size drawings. I think that the one that interest me the most would be the second in line from the last vertical row, and the one on its left side, colored black. I chose 2 of these because I felt that the designs are the most appropriate and it gives a unique but minimalistic look that I’m looking for.

For the development, I explored on a variety of textures and patterns which I think is interesting, some of which I drew, and some of which I found in the internet. My eyes are drawn to particularly the criss cross pattern, as it makes such a simple effect.

I did a research on existing products and opened another radio which was digital and has the functions of an alarm, LED light and projector. I think that from the research and the product autopsies, I have learnt about the placement of the inner components.

On to the next step, which is one of my favorites. Design ideas! For this project, I though that the exploration of different simple shapes which then leads to complicated shapes are rly important, so I section my ideas into several pages with a basic shape in mind and of course, also relating to the customer research. What I have found is that she seeks for minimalistic style which doesn't require complicated shapes, sleek and modern design, so these are the designs that I've explored. Overall, I think that my sketches definitely improved from last semester and the forms and the directions of the shadows as well. I am quite happy with my design ideas at this stage as I produced a variety of designs with many style options that I could think of for the next section, which is developing it.

We were introduced into the big project of the semester, which is making a music device. But first, we need to find a customer and do a customer research. This research includes their profile, making a mood board of things they like or what they have or are interested in, a storyboard of their daily schedule. My customer is my friend from edinburgh whom I'm very close to. I think that this gives a good base on what kind of person she is and what she would be attracted to(for the music device). It also gives me a clear Idea of the traits of the music device to suit her.
