Thank you for the tag, desiskipper.
Rules: In a text post, list 10 books that have stayed with you some way. Don’t take but a few minutes, and don’t think too hard - they don’t have to be the “right” works, just the ones that have touched you. Tag 10 friends, including me (I assume this means the initiator sheldonslog, but it could be desiskipper since I copied this rule from her post), so I’ll see your list. Make sure you let your friends know you’ve tagged them.
As for me, my list is a mixture of English and Chinese books as I read both. When I was growing up, I read many Chinese translated versions of English classics, but I have not read all the English originals yet (shame on me).
1) 紅樓夢 Dream of the Red Chamber (My all-time favorite, and it stays with me forever)
2) 小婦人 Little Women by Louisa May Alcott (The Chinese translation was my favorite book when I was a child. Love the English original just the same. I so wanted to be Jo; still do)
3) 飄 Gone with the Wind by Margaret Mitchell (Read the Chinese translation only. I adore Melanie.)
4) 傳奇 張愛玲 A collection of Eileen Chang (Pretty as a picture, literally)
5) 鹿鼎記 The Deer and the Cauldron by Jin Yong (My favorite martial art novel)
6) 東方快車謀殺案 Murder on the Orient Express by Agatha Christie (My first introduction to Agatha Christie when I was about 10 years old, in Chinese translation)
7) 喜福會 The Joy Luck Club by Amy Tan (Cried like a baby. I always have a complicated relationship with my mother. Read in both Chinese and English and liked them both.)
8) The Samurai’s Garden by Gail Tsukiyama (Beautiful sentiment)
9) Angels and Demons by Dan Brown (Thrilling. Like it better than The Da Vinci Code)
10) Harry Potter Series by J.K. Rowling (Pure magic)
Honorable (or dishonorable?) mention: The Twilight Saga by Stephanie Meyer (My ultimate guilty pleasure) There, I said it, and I am not here to apologize.
I am tagging everyone who follow me and feel like sharing because I simply couldn’t limit my tags to 10. If you do post it, please be sure to tag me as well, so I get to see your list. I know we are only supposed to tag 10 people and only do a text post, but I couldn’t narrow my list down and couldn’t resist to include a photo of Jane reading (My Little Bush Maid by Mary Grant Bruce). What can I say? I am a rebel.
