I just had another random thought and I wonder why it hadn't occurred to me until now. The potion that Dr. Nefario makes that makes minions fly up into the air; it doesn't remind you of anything else you've seen? Fizzy Lifting Drinks? What if Dr. Nefario is actually Mr. Wonka, but he was chased down for murdering the children? So he moved to a new town, changed his name, and now at his old age, he's trying to recreate the Fizzy Lifting Drinks, but he's forgetting an ingredient that brings the minions down? And what if minions are just Oompa-Loompas that had some sort of a gene mutation during creation?
