Hi tumblr, I don’t post much but I figured there’s a start to everything. Don’t read if you’re not a fan of woke opinions or something.

One of my maybe (??) hottest takes regarding Willy wonka (mostly speaking about 05 but goes for ‘71 I suppose) and how most people perceive the man is that they always paint him to be this naturally evil man when, well yes he is lowkey evil but there are some VERY obvious reasons to that.

In regards of (05), his dad was a health crazed dentist who practically humiliated and outcast him as a child due to that stupid headgear he wore, there’s no way he wasn’t bullied for that and the fact his diet was probably extremely limited. Halloween must of been his least favourite time of year.

Then going on after that to building this highly sought out chocolate/candy empire by himself, having to deal with spies left and right stealing his life’s work. And last but not least the man was ISOLATED. For more than 15 fucking years!! FIFTEEN YEARS PEOPLE. No one but his oompa loompa’s to talk to. If they even spoke that is, I assume their communication was mostly in the form of body language and gestures.

After all that I’d also go a little insane, my reconnection with the world being 4 bratty kids and their parents would’ve been the cherry on top.

Some would argue this could be very obvious and I just want something wonka related to rant and or talk about but I can’t handle another person saying that Willy is satan reincarnated when the man has already been through some trauma.

In the end I’m the teenager with no life who’s obsessed with a Crazed chocolatier so. Shrug.

Stuff I've thought abt Willy/his "backstory"? maybe "headcanons that popped up in my head and that I accepted" would be more fitting. Quite "rushed"

Willy was born in the early 1900s, in a well off British family. When he was a teen his parents put him in one of those all-girls schools (as they were quite rich), but ofc his dreams were others- already from a young age- and so during lessons he would sneak out in a hideaway he found. There he would begin more "normal" sweets he would sell but, as time passed, he would begin experimenting more.

When he got caught, his parents tried to send him to a stricter boarding school but, having already put some money aside, he ran away to another country (probably France) where he changed his identity, name and gender after realizing. From there, without having to hide as he did in school, he started putting up a small business selling candy while he traveled to numerous, even remote places in exchange of gigs, searching for new tastes to add to his creations.

In his late 20s, he went back to the UK, and, without nobody knowing who he was, he managed to open a candy shop in a small city. His business quickly grew as more and more people noticed how good his sweets were, starting to be more known first in Europe, then worldwide. After rising to fame, he opened his factory, and employed many, many people from the small city, becoming a pillar in its economy. While he was beloved by those citiziens, he started to become a sort of a living myth, as nobody knew who he was before arriving there, with no information relating to his birthplace or his surname, as he chose that too.

As he, after about a decade of it, closed his factory after the whole "incident" with the spies (only to go back in business after the trip to Loompaland) the myth grew, and by the time the announcement of the Golden Ticket contest came, nobody could remember much about how he was, except for a older few.

telling myself to go to sleep by imagining Willy coming into the room and picking me up like a cat and taking me to bed bc he can't sleep well. Plus I hc he's already got troubles with sleep but he wouldn't want me to get not enough sleep
