JXTA SUMMER FLASHBACKS: Destiny Roberts and Anthony Aigbogun, founders of LIKE US, and facilitators of the DIY: Destroy it Yourself workshop at JXTA this past summer, talk about their workshop and why they began their startup.
Anthony on the workshop: “My idea was, I wanted to create a workshop where the youth can come in and learn the basic techniques of destroying, distressing, and customization of clothing. On the first day I asked them what are their fashion inspirations, and they gave me all types of entertainment artists. So I let them know, these are stuff that you can create by hand, yourself. So that’s my main focus: to let them understand and know that they have the ability and opportunity to create what they see out in media, without spending those bu-ku bucks.”
Destiny on their startup “Its mainly to promote positive creation/creativity. Its called LIKE US – not because we want for people to be like us, but just to add positive lifestyle, mindsets, being healthy, not just working out but listening to the right music, being around the right people. The time is now.”
