he was in his mid to late teens when he realized. there was another second from ouskejon who was a little older than him. the young man was rather charming and they saw eye-to-eye on a lot, which made it easier for them to hit it off as friends. at first, roan just thought he admired him. he was a skilled warrior and had a lot of wisdom for his age. but, after a little while he realized he definitely had something of a crush on the other boy.

peace. something they are RARELY able to afford. and not just the sort where their people aren’t trying to kill each other. but the one where it’s quiet. where their ever racing minds are able to slow down, even if it’s just for a few minutes. he has learned to cherish it when it comes. especially when it is accompanied by her in his arms. the sensation of her resting against him, half on top of him really with her head on his chest, it’s soothing.

fingers brush through her hair, his other arm loosely draped across her back. these moments make everything else easier. it gives him STRENGTH to face his duties in ways he never knew was possible. it is a different sort of strength. something he doesn’t quite know how to describe. but he is grateful for it. for her. for this— them. head tilts, gaze drifts to look down at clarke. she looks as if she is half asleep. but he still moves his hands to cup her face, shifting to pull her closer towards him for a kiss.

that’s soothing too. tasting her, touching her like there is nothing else in the world but them. he likes to FORGET. she makes him forget. maybe they help each other let go. because they aren’t releasing duty, they are letting go of their weights just long enough to grab onto each other. to make each other feel like a person again. he kisses her and he’s REMINDED he is more than the man beneath the crown. more than the shadow of the throne. he’s just roan, someone she can love. // @destroyir
