They call me detective blowjob for reasons I won't tell you
re: your tags on Jonathan and Drakona, HELP. FASCINATED. I think his unpleasantness would irk them greatly at first because presentation is Everything to them and he is RUINING IT and they can't argue back in front of the client without looking bad (it's not a good look when the detectives working for you are fighting). it's a lot of What Are You Doing You'll Blow This For Both Of Us. but once they realize he's like that On Purpose and out of pettiness? unfortunately it becomes fun to them. they are now poking away at the Additional Challenge of maneuvering around it and also seeing if they can get him to like them. they are taking advantage of his Everything for good-cop-bad-cop scenarios (depending on who they're talking to the roles change. for someone the fancy detective will be the Good One and for someone they'll be the Bad One.). they are saying wrong things on purpose so that he can correct them and when he does they just agree with him and thank him for his insight. they won't ever go as far as to make themself look Fully Incompetent but they'll try to get him to stop feeling threatened. (also, they are taking notes. they're a charmer most of the time but sometimes you Need to be unpleasant and they have a master of that right there, they could learn a thing or two from him)
Okay this is one of the best things in my inbox of all time and thank you so much for dropping in, I have SO much to dissect and say.
Jonathan is so deeply strange and weird and traumatized I think cat-and-mousing him should count as therapy and Drakona should get absolutely no financial compensation, I need them to burden each other because oughhhhh my Neath... The weirdos they *are*, both of them.
First of all, the difference in approaches to appearance and reputation. Like you can't take Jonathan out and about without someone being like 'this guy sucks' and it would be very easy for Drakona to appeal to that built-in impression, like you mentioned with good-cop bad-cop. It would be such a fascinating established dynamic because both are able to be like 'your talents / way of doing things works and gives me opportunities'. Jonathan's ability to snoop around while Drakona is reassuring or charming a witness, or him getting nasty and verbally under-handed for Drakona to 'turn' on him. The ability to quickly gain rapport with a witness via 'that guy sucks'. He directly elevates them as the more trustworthy person to talk to, ergo eliminates him having to do all the talking on his own.
I don't honestly know if Jonathan knows how to react to the attempt to not intimidate him. There's very little he doesn't see as a slight from new people, so Drakona being nice and playful and tolerating would honestly encourage him to find new ways to be awful until he hits something because part of him would be pissed off; he's sensitive and used to being infantilized in some variety of way. 'What if I dissected you while you dissected me, both hoping to hit an artery' kinda bastard asshole who does NOT want new friends. Or so he says.
He's taking them agreeing with his perspective to then jump in with something adjacent, he's pushing the envelope on how wrong he can get until their intellectual pride can't take it. He's agreeing with their incorrect deductions so hard in a back and forth of two people who know they're saying the wrong thing, that it confuses everyone around them. I think fundamentally getting used to each other would create that weird cliffedge of an understanding where in knowing neither of you are stupid, you finally have the freedom to act partially stupid because it circles back around to a mind game so it's actually stimulating and fun.
I think one of the first things he'd take to is like. Being touchy. It's his go-to because one he is touch starved and genuinely craves it like a dog, but also because it's such an effective way to put people off their game and yet I could easily see Drakona at least pretending to match him and it becomes this weird Thing They Do. Contest of endurance, he wants them to flinch and the more they don't the worse it gets. From my understanding they're both weird, I think this would be a very strange car crash scenario.
Like. It's so bad it works. Also them both being Nemesis PCs with some variety of substance addiction... The possibilities fascinate me.
Now hang the fuck on what's this...
