so many cool questions. get hit: 4 5 6 14 23 25 31 50
4. Do you have writing habits or rituals?
I have a playlist for just about everything I write, and I generally need background noise of some kind to write at all, but other than that? I’m inconsistent as hell. I tend to make coffee before sitting down to do work (any work) bc it feel Productive, for some reason
5. Books or authors that influenced your style the most.
the leviathan trilogy! i’d say scott westerfeld but i never got around to reading his other works also highkey could the amount of people who read uglies please pick up leviathan it’s so good,, i loved those characters so much hope one day i can write characters other ppl relate to like i related to deryn and alek. also benjamin alire sáenz/ari and dante, god i wish i could have a writing style even half as gorgeous skljdhekjdh. probably also joseph fink & jeffrey cranor w/wtnv bc i just.. i feel like the lessons (morals? points? what Are They) always pack such a big punch and i’ve strived for that kind of effect in my own writing since i started listening.
6. Favorite character you ever created.
hhh this changes w/like every single new project atm my oc skylar bc i have had him and his story for so long bc i started it like when i was 15/16ish,, his character shifted a bit but i started knowing that at his core he was just. kind and well-meaning and tbh writing a character like that was my first deviation from “cynical asshole” characters which was so good i love not being mean
14. What’s the most research you ever put into a book?
i literally don’t know because i don’t do like. blocks of research before i start something i just google things as i have to know them, and i tend to set things in worlds i built so i can make things up and move quicker. i suppose recently bc of a project i’ve been looking more into rep and how to handle representing groups i’m not in, so a fair amount of time w/that. i’ve also looked up a whole lot of witchcraft and lycanthropy stuff.
i try to just google things when i don’t know them, find a simple answer, and then keep writing, or when i’m not working on something i’ll look at very general writing advice
23. Single or multi POV, and why?
single i’m a big idiot i can’t keep track of that many characters. i always find my writing feels cluttered when i switch povs so i stopped doing it p quick
25. Linear or non-linear, and why?
i like non-linear stylistically and will almost always go that route w/short things but the longer the project is the harder it is for me to keep track of everything. if it’s short though i like the challenge of trying to make everything fit together and make sense when the reader is getting information in a different order.
31. Hardest character to write.
not anyone specific but i always feel like i have a hard time with charming and smooth characters bc i am Not Those Things. anyone who flirts a lot? i’m bad. whats flirting even look like.
50. Weirdest story idea you’ve ever had.
im completely fucking incapable of writing regular people hanging out and being normal without some form of paranormal/magic/sci-fi elements so i have a fuckload of hybrid genre things where i started something that was meant to just be like. a coffeeshop and then i was like “ok what if, magic” so i have a lot of those. started writing a story abt a trans man intending to take the coming out genre back from the cishets and now he’s a werewolf so
send me writing asks!!
then vs. now

i like you so much, i can hardly breathe. i like you so much, i feel like i got thunder and lightning inside of me. you make me nervous. but you also make me calm. real calm. calm almost like how god must be calm, you know, mylene? calm from loving.
