Green Mile AUs
(After John Coffey’s execution, people began to file out having served their purposes of witnessing the execution being set out. Mr. Detterick and his wife stay behind and he walks up to Paul as he was taking his leave.)
Mr. Detterick: Ha, that’s what ya git! I hope that he split Hell open and is burning real good.
Paul: (clearly disturbed) Hey served his time and paid the price. Let him rest.
Mr. Detterick: Why are ya tryin’ to defend im? You ain’t one of ‘em sympathizers are ya?
Paul: If you excuse me, I have to return home to the missus.
(As he turned to walk away, Mr. Detterick grabs his hand.)
Mr. Detterick: Hey, wait!-
(His eyes widened; his body spasms from feeling John’s power flow through Paul; he saw Wild Bill breaking into his home by tearing the screen on the door with his knife. Then, to his horror, he saw Wild Bill with his daughters, his words echoing in his mind.)
Mr. Detterick: What...what in the...?
(He collapses on the floor; his wife races towards him out of concern.)
Mrs. Detterick: Honey! What....?
(She grabs his arm and the same visions are projected into her mind; horrified, her eyes glazed over.)
Mrs. Detterick: It...can’t be....he???
(She fell to the ground and was rendered into a catatonic state. Her husband’s mental state slowly returned to him, but his wife was permanently in her vegetative state from the trauma of seeing the truth play out to her like a movie.)
Mr. Detterick: Oh my god...
Paul: I’m sorry you had to find out this way.
