Deus EX - Augmented nicknames /slurs

The augmented are given many names during the play through of Deus Ex Mankind Divided and some are easy to see their origins. Others have a little bit more to them - Aug - obviously short for augmented, nothing special there. A descriptive slang rather than slur, though can be used as the latter. Clank - Slur, for the metal inhuman sound some augs make. As if the augmented person isn't human anymore. They are a robot, a machine without feeling. Robot - Slur - see same above. Hanzer - bastardisation of the word enhanced- aka Enhanced Human. Possibly more slang than slur, but depends on situation, as augs sometimes use it amongst themselves, yet often 'hanzer bastard' is heard too. Wrench - Specific to those augs who others think work for the 'man' . Often used on Jensen, because he unlike many others, has a job and dresses well. Those that work with the system put a wrench in progress. Does not match to the slang term for Wrench now, which is someone without class.

When Deus Ex and Deus Ex: Human Revolution Take Place

Beth DuClare Awarded Legion of Honor APR - Paris, France Beth DuClare, millionaire, philanthropist, activist -- and famously reputed to be the mistress of French President Alain Bourges-Maunoury -- was today posthumously awarded the position of Chevalier in the Ordre Royale de la Legion D'Honneur. Created by Napoleon Bonaparte on May 19, 1802, the Legion of Honor is an order of merit to which all qualifying military personnel and civilians can be nominated without regard to birth or religion, provided that they swear to uphold liberty and equality. The award was not without some controversy, as members of the Republican Social Union for French Democracy (RSUFD) party disputed the merit based on her involvement in the "Somnolente Ile" scandal that rocked the Serra administration five years ago. Beth DuClare passed away in September, found dead at her chateau of natural causes. She was survived by her daughter, Nicolette DuClare, who has been missing since her mother's death. Police currently have no leads as to her whereabouts. The award was accepted on Beth DuClare's behalf by President Bourges-Maunoury." 

It’s reported that the events of Deus Ex take place roughly 6 months after DuClare’s assassination - This means it can be pinned down to February/March of 2052. Personally, I would set it to mid-to-late March due to the weather we can observe. Considering all the traveling between NA, Asia and Europe all the events should be taking place over the span of roughly a week.

Human Revolution:

Thanks to some PDAs (pictures above) and Picus TV I am somewhat able to "recreate" some of the timeline of the events of HR. If we assume that Darrow is a human being and does take breaks , it looks like this: 

Day 1: Events of Detroit Visit 1 - Darrow is in Prague that Day (Reported by Picrus). The day before Adam returns to work Darrow was in Singapore, Omega Ranch. I checked that regular commercial flying with one stop takes around 14-17 hours, maybe we can cut it down to 10h in the future but I doubt Darrow was in Prague and Singapore at the same day.

Day 2: Hengsha Visit 1 (Flight Detroit - Shanghai: 1 Stop 16-18 h in our times, so I guess maybe 10-13 in DX ) & Darrow visiting London due to unknown reasons (Prague-London should be about 1-2h) 

Day 3: Adam returns to Detroit after a short visit to Montreal (flight duration: 2-3 hours), Darrow shows up there as well 

Day 4: Hengsha Visit 2 (Zhao meets with Page) 

Between Day 4-7: Events of Missing Link 

Day 7/8: Omega ranch + Aug incident/Panchaea

If we assume that Zhao met with Darrow in Singapore, we can see it like this (considering the timezones): 

Day 1: Tuesday/Monday  Day 2: Wednesday/Tuesday Day 3: Thursday/Wednesday Day 4: Friday/Thursday Missing Link: Friday/Thursday - Monday/Sunday Aug Incident: Monday/Sunday

Again, we are looking at roughly a week. Pinning down the month is more difficult due to incorrect and imprecise data. Picus mentions an upcoming solar eclipse on a Sunday. There are 2 solar eclipses in 2027, but neither fit the description given: February 6th (Saturday) & August 2nd (Monday).

I remember that Black Light says that Jensen wakes up in late 2028 after a year in comatose, but I don’t remember if there was even more info about it. Someone who is more into the lore of BL/Adam: Feel free to correct me here.

But judging by the weather and how people dress, I would set HR in September/October.

Hi! You flatter me with those words and I am more than willing to help (or at least I hope I can do so)

Understanding the 2030 earthquake is a wonderful way to understand how the Illuminati work and I will try my best to explain it to you.

Generally, you can say that the earthquake was not just for “the shit and giggles” and to randomly destroy the US west coast - there are many things you need to take into consideration and I will show them to you:

First of all: The Illuminati are all about control, and they consider every way that achieves this goal as completely justified. The are the puppermasters who linger over the world like a dark shadow.

Europe and Asia are their biggest bastions, where they were most successfull and where their “roots” are. Especially the Templar’s - the Illuminati bankers - have extreme control over the region and it continues to grow, as stated by Beth DuClare in Black Light. In 2003, the UK adapts the Euro which extends the Templar’s control as they now have Europe’s finances completely in their hands - this implies that the EU as a constitution is in Illuminati control.  China’s form of communism presents a successful social experiement, the first successful attempt on a centralized government as desired by the Illuminati. China might be free of UN control, they are in fact exactly what the elusive group wants them to be - and MJ12 could simply take over and did not have to change anything.

But on the other hand, the Council of Five highly struggles to extend their control over the US and try to increase it by constantly destabilizing - 9/11 was one of such attempt, since the reactions to it played into their hands. More survelleince, more paranoia, more control. Yet, they were never truly successful. So around 2029 they decide to go even further with their plan and want to basically “burn down” the US and build it up from scratch. So at first they use the earthquake to destroy the West Coast and exaggerate the reports about the damage and the casulties (as you can see in the Picus vault) to spread even more fear and desperation - officially, the area is declared as a “disaster zone” and even in 2052 you can still see the aftermath. Seemingly, it never really recovered from that. Shortly after this event, perhaps it was a trigger, a civil war errupted in the States known as the “Nortwest War”. In 2031, Utah declares full independence and annexes Arizona and Nevada. Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming form the Northwest Secessionist Forces and break off from the US.  In the end, all of those “indenpence” attempt fails and the “rogue” states get reintegrated into the US and the government declares Martial Law - continuing the create a fragile and fractured state. And this is the perfect breeding ground for Majestic 12.

Around the same time several severe epidemics haunt the world, causing the deaths of millions. It is not known how many of those were artificially created by the Illuminati and how many had natural causes (one of them was caused by researchers accidentally releasing a strain of the 1918 Spanish Flu virus found in dead bodies at the North Pole), but VersaLife played a critical role in curing and controling them and further extending their power.

Long story short: The earthquake was one of many attempts to destabilze the US to increase the power/control over it - a method the Illuminati have used countless times in the past. But in the end, all they did was to play into Majestic 12′s hands and making their rise to power easier. It’s highly possible that Bob used this for himself while the others thought they were doing it for themselves (since Morgan is in involved, and he was not involved in the coup d'état)

Furthermore, there I suspect it was a great opportunity to destroy the Roccasecca Beach research facility of VersaLife to erase all traces of the Orchid and the nanonexperiements conducted there - possibly leading to Megan Reed’s death. Gary Savage officially works at this site during 2029, but since he appears in the original Deus Ex, we know for sure that he survives. 

Deus Ex is also all about “conspiracy theories being true”, and this is the case here too. In the world of Deus Ex, there is a conspiracy theory around the earthquake saying a doomsday cult caused it by  planting low-radiation nuclear explosives along the San Andreas fault. In fact, conspiracies about tectonic weapons are nothing new to our world, as many people claim the 2010 Haiti earthquake was in fact caused by the US, using a technology called HAARP (I think MD even mocks this because you can see a magazine cover writing about a HAARP space telescope? I am not sure about this and I can’t check it since I am currently at campus, but I will edit this bit as soon as I can).

-odin lowe was heero yuy's nephew. 

-on the colonies of the l4 cluster, many people wear multiple earings to indicate various things about their political leanings. during the civil wars prior to ac170, this was a good way to signal your alliances to friend and foe alike. quatre wears them as well, as it's still fashionable, though he keeps two sets. one is a dark amethyst, grey opal, and gold helix cuff combination that indicate he's an important member of the winner family. the other (which he wears for most of the war) is a sapphire, garnet, and silver cuff combination that mark him as a non-combatant but important member of the daa'irah family (his mother's.) this set belonged to his uncle, who was murdered during the civil wars.

-duo and heero have a younger brother. we'll meet him much much later.

-(this is because duo's mother and heero's father were married.)

-l3 mercenaries have elaborate tattoos that identify where they're from, their families, their life stories, and pretty much anything else they want to include. many families on l3 and l2 have these as well. trowa and catherine discovered early on that they were siblings, owing to a shared "seed" at the small of their backs. 

-neither father maxwell nor sister helen were catholics, or even christians. maxwell was an atheist. "helen" was a muslim. neither of them had much of an idea regarding how to go about preaching, as such. 

-violet eyes are uncommon but do occur. they're rare enough however that there is a good chance that people who have them are related in some fashion. duo has them. so does mariemaia. something to consider.

-trowa killed trowa barton.

-after the war the pilots are sought out to do commercials and photoshoots almost as often as they are to stop terrorism. duo and wufei both do a lot of makeup, and duo and trowa do a lot of clothing modeling. heero does clothing and products sometimes. quatre avoids it all like the plague, as he hates having his picture taken. zechs does high fashion when asked.

-duo is terrified of the ocean to the point of panic. this is because of a particular exercise during his (horrific, abusive) training that involved trapping him in the suit hangar in zero gravity and leeching out the oxygen to teach him to operate calmly under adverse space circumstances. getting him in water deeper than a small pond is nearly impossible. 

-wufei spent the first five years of his life only rarely out of his mother's sight. as an infant she kept him strapped to her back or chest, even when she worked.

-on l1 polyamorous arrangements are not uncommon and are generally looked upon as perfectly acceptable. heero would have had four grandparents on his father's side -- his father's biological mother and father, and their respective same gender partners.
