There was really no warnings or preceding to this as Kevin suddenly appeared in a fit of giggles and pinched Gabriel's cheek. "Hi, Mr. Sunshine," he gushed before kissing the other, unpinched, cheek.
Gabriel was almost stunned as Kevin pinched his cheek, only to look up. There was a soft smile on the man's features as his boyfriend kissed him. "Oh..." There was a tilt of Gabriel's head as he looked emptily at Kevin.
This just had to be another hallucination. There was no possible way Kevin was back.
How did one deal with the fact that he had most definitely destroyed his boyfriend? There wasn't a strict definition of how to pick yourself up. There was no way to fix what Gabriel Mendez had officially ruined. Kevin wanted nothing more than to be with Gabriel, but the man realized that was ultimately what brought the two to their demise. Kevin was so ruined, and it scared the radio host. Seeing Kevin so terrified was worrisome. He could fix it, that was true, but for how long? Kevin had lasted around two years without these issues, and he had assured Gabriel that things just got worse when Gabriel was around him. When he took his medication. Gabriel was ruining his boyfriend.
Kevin's suggestion of wiping his memory every night was possible, but how was the StrexCorp CEO supposed to handle waking up to Kevin not knowing him every damn day? It seemed tedious.
When Gabriel got the idea to restore Kevin and send him back to Night Vale, the thought made him sick. Kevin would ultimately be happier in Night Vale, though. He could be his own person. There would be no medication, no StrexCorp, no evils of his own doing. Kevin Free would be exactly what his last name was...
Free.
As he got a text message back from Lauren saying they had successfully grabbed Kevin from where he was, Gabriel let out a sigh of relief. Soon all of this would be over with and nothing else would matter. It worried Gabriel, though. Would he honestly be able to deal without his beloved Kevin by his side?
The CEO felt the buzz of his cellphone in his pocket and cleared his throat. Kevin was waiting for him, completely unconscious in the original reeducating room that Gabriel had brought him to when they had first met. He wiped his eyes from his tears, knowing he had to be strong, Gabriel started down the stairs, needing more time than the elevator would give him to prepare himself to destroy his relationship.
As he made it to the room, he looked out upon Kevin's body being sewn up to it's usual state from the double sided mirror. It pained him. After this Kevin would never remember him again. After this, his sunshine would not exist. He glanced over at Daniel, who seemed to be hyper aware of his boss' emotions, and he pointed to the door. He wanted to be alone if he had to watch his only lasting relationship crumble.
An hour passed and Gabriel was still staring at the men working on Kevin's body. It disgusted him as to how they could just cast away his work. How dare they do that. Gabriel felt woozy even thinking about it. Kevin's eyes were replaced with his original and gorgeous beauties that had first captured the CEO's heart when they had first met. The eyes that had told him that Kevin was the one who should be the centerfold for the company. There was no neckmouth, no blood. He had been cleaned up. No more... disasters. No more mistakes. He was back to his usual human self. His third eye was even gone. It was so strange even seeing Kevin like this. Finally he cleared his voice and pressed an intercom to the room Kevin and the men were in to ask them to leave. He would do the revitalizing of Kevin's memory himself.
The man stepped into the room and unhooked Kevin from the anesthesia that made him knocked out. Kissing his gorgeous radio host on his lips, Gabriel let tears fall down from his eyes once more. He had to be stronger than this.
"My sunshine. My love. I'll never forget you, I promise you. You will always be in my heart," the Latino man whispered softly as he kissed Kevin where his third eye usually was placed and pulled back. He ignored Kevin's cries for Gabriel not to do this, and that there had to be another way. Kevin would no longer have any ailments that he could not cure. Kevin would be able to be himself. He'd already arranged to have Kevin have a new life in Night Vale. He'd be just like everyone else. He'd fit in there. He'd hate Desert Bluffs and StrexCorp and it would kill Gabriel more than anything.
Moving to the switch that was connected to Kevin's brain, Gabriel looked over all the programming before switching it on and trying to block out Kevin's screams of agony. This would be the last time Kevin would ever have to be in pain, and it would be all worth it, even if there would be a giant hole in the man's heart.
Gabriel moved out of the room and shut the door, leaving Kevin's screams the only thing he could hear. He slid against the reeducation room's door and pulled his knees to his chest and just started crying.
How did one cope without the love of their life, especially when the love of their life would no longer remember them?
