okay today is october 3rd, the German Unity Day, and - as a german - I just wanted to share something real quick:

i genuinely believed for too fucking long that you could pretty easily get an abortion in Germany bc i knew my mom had one when she was in her twenties.

until i found out a few years ago that Germany has pretty strict abortion laws and the reason why my mom could get an abortion in the 80s was because my family is from East Germany, so she was living in the DDR back then. And when the BRD and the DDR united in 1990, the constitution of the BRD just got adopted with only the territory & captial changing.

And reproductive rights (and other rights) in the DDR were more progressive than the BRD.

So yeah. Thats fucked up.
