तृतीय दिवस साधना

वक्रतुण्ड महाकाय सूर्यकोटि समप्रभ।

निर्विघ्नं कुरु मे देव सर्वकार्येषु सर्वदा॥

जय श्री भैरव जय महादेव

या देवी सर्वभूतेषु माँ चन्द्रघण्टा रूपेण संस्थिता। नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमो नमः॥

वन्दे वाञ्छितलाभाय चन्द्रार्धकृतशेखराम्। सिंहारूढा चन्द्रघण्टा यशस्विनीम्॥ मणिपुर स्थिताम् तृतीय दुर्गा त्रिनेत्राम्। खङ्ग, गदा, त्रिशूल, चापशर, पद्म कमण्डलु माला वराभीतकराम्॥ पटाम्बर परिधानां मृदुहास्या नानालङ्कार भूषिताम्। मञ्जीर, हार, केयूर, किङ्किणि, रत्नकुण्डल मण्डिताम॥ प्रफुल्ल वन्दना बिबाधारा कान्त कपोलाम् तुगम् कुचाम्। कमनीयां लावण्यां क्षीणकटि नितम्बनीम्॥

कर्पूरगौरं करुणावतारं संसारसारं भुजगेन्द्रहारम्। सदा बसन्तं हृदयारबिन्दे भबं भवानीसहितं नमामि।।

 Devi Chandraghanta is worshiped on the third day ofNavratri. She rides on a Tiger; there is a bell shaped crescent on the mother's head which gave her the name GoddessChandraghanta. She has ten hands, each hand has different weapons. She protects against demonic forces.According to Hindu mythology, Devi Chandraghanta is the Goddess of spirituality and internal strength. DeviChandraghanta is also known asChandrakhanda, Chandika or Rannchandi. This form ofDevi Chandraghnata is peaceful and welfare. By her grace all the sins, distresses, physical sufferings, mental tribulations and ghostly hurdles of the devotees are eradicated.

Devī Candraghaṅṭā (देवी चन्द्रघण्टा)

The form of the Mother Goddess worshipped on the 3rd Night during Navarātri is that of Devī Candraghaṅṭā. The name probably derives from the crescent moon the Goddess is sometimes depicted bearing on her head.

According to legend, this was the fierce form assumed by the Mother Goddess when she confronted Lord Śiva to assume a less fierce form when he arrived with his wild entourage at the palace of King Himavat, Devī Pārvatī’s father, to wed her.

In this form the Goddess is Depicted mounted on a tiger (though occasionally also a lion) as her vāhana. Usually depicted clad in red and having eight arms (though 10 armed depictions are also seen) wielding triśūla (trident), gadā (mace), dhanuśya- bāṇa (bow and arrow), khaḍga (sword), kamala (lotus), kamaṅḍalū (waterpot) and the eight hand in abhaya-mudrā (gesture of assurance to devotees). This is a fierce aspect of the Goddess often identified with Canḍikā or Raṇacaṅḍī, for destruction of the wicked. But for her devotees she is merciful and like a loving mother.

She is invoked with the śloka:
