Devi Śailaputrī (शैलपुत्री)
Nine different forms of the Great Goddess Durgā are worshipped on the nine nights of Navrātri.
The first night is dedicated to Goddess Śailaputrī – daughter of the mountains. The Mother Goddess incarnated as the daughter of King Himavat – the mighty Himālayas personified, and was known as Devi Pārvati. She is also known as Hemavati – (daughter of Himavat), on this account.
In Tantrik Śaktaism she is associated with the Mūlādhāra cakra – the commencement of awakening of Kuṅḍalini Śakti. In iconography, Goddess Śailaputrī is depicted clad in white, wielding a trident and a lotus in her two arms, riding the vāhana Naṅdi.
She is meditated upon with the śloka –
