Writing request for @denburrito, where Kara is the Deviant Hunter AU. So, yeah. Um, I just hope you enjoy it.
----------------------------------------------------------
Rain hit her shoulders heavily. Making her face shine in the bright moon. Eyes scanning the scrappy building standing before her.
The door closed behind the RK800 Android. Even after reading the 'No Androids Allowed' sign outside. Her eyes searched for a match.
A shady looking man hid his face. His gray hair shielding his features. His form hunched over the counter, glass in hand.
"Lieutenant Anderson?" She said. He never made eye contact.
"My name is Kara. I'm the Android sent by CyberLife." Kara remarked on the familiar line that has been said before.
"I don't give a damn." Anderson grunted out.
"You may not care, but I do. A homicide was reported 43 minutes ago, " Kara explained, "I searched 4 other bars before, I guess I was lucky to find you at the fifth one."
"Sarcastic asshole, I see. Well, can't you see I'm busy?" Anderson snapped, "So be a good lil' Android and get the fuck outta here."
Kara raised her eyebrows. Taken aback from his response.
"I'm sorry, Lieutenant. But I must insist. My instructions contradict your behavior." Kara got in his face.
"Ya know where you can stick your instructions?" Anderson chuckled effortlessly.
"No, where do I stick them?" Kara replied, taking it literally. Anderson gave a face of regret.
"Lieutenant Anderson I won't hesitate to report your behavior. Now, come with me." Kara demanded.
"You think I care?" Anderson asked.
"You should care, " She spat, "But then again... Why would a DPD officer be here, anyways? For fun? No reason?" Her hand reached for the glass and tipped it empty, "Or is there a reason?"
"You little prick!" Anderson pulled on the lapels of her jacket, "If I could, I would tear you to fuckin' pieces right now. Want me to do that?"
"I can't answer that. 'Cause it hasn't happened." Kara challenged his anger. And won. He released her and walked off with his finger up.
Protests. War. Violence. All three are what the Deviant Leader, Markus, was showing the humans.
Jericho needed to be located in order to stop this. That's why Anderson drove to Kamski's house. Way down deep in the snow, almost buried in it.
"Lieutenant, where are we?" Kara asked, observing the house up and down.
"At an old friend's house," Anderson replied then rang the doorbell.
"Is he still living here?" Kara asked when he rang it another time.
"Well, he couldn't have just fuckin' vanished, right? So, shut up." Anderson snapped.
"Sorry..." Kara muttered.
The door opened, showing a tall, thing Android. With blonde hair and bright blue eyes.
"Uh, yeah, I'm - We're here to ask Mr. Kamski a few questions." Anderson asked, "I'm Lieutenant Hank Anderson, and this is... An Android."
"My name is Kara, not 'Android', " Kara said.
"Very well, come on in. I'll tell Elijah you're here." She walked in the back room without a word more.
Anderson took a seat in one of the blocky chairs.
"Nice girl, " Is all he said.
"Yeah. I suppose. But, I'm not too sure, " Kara took a seat, "I don't know what to think about her."
"Christ, you and your damn android ways, again. Ever think about not being a machine?" Anderson asked harshly.
"No, not necessarily. I'm not programmed to think like that, " Kara replied.
The door opened and the same Android stepped out.
"Elijah will see you now."
Both walked to the back room. To be greeted with a quite odd red stained pool. 2 other androids included and what seemed like Kamski.
"Mr. Kamski!" Anderson said.
After a few more laps in the pool, he finally got out. Put a robe on, and stood formally.
"Uh, Hank Anderson, and... Kara." Anderson greeted.
"I see. What are you here for, if I may ask?" Kamski asked.
"We're here to learn more about deviants." Kara answered.
"Deviants. Fascinating aren't they?" Kamski turned to them, "What about you, Kara? Are you a deviant?"
"No, no I'm not. I'm a machine, " Kara seemed troubled, "What makes you think that?"
"No reason. Only asking."
"Sorry to interrupt but, We'd like to know more about deviants. It's more our investigation. And we want this info." Anderson demanded, only to be ignored by him.
"What about you Kara? What do you want?" Kamski asked.
"What I want is not important. Now answer our questions!" Kara raised her voice.
"Very well. What do you want to know? Wait, no, no nevermind, " Kamski motioned to the blonde Android, "Let's test something.
"This is an Android, right? Not capable of feeling anything. But, let's see what it is to you, Kara. And let's see if you really are a deviant or not."
"Mr. Kamski I don't have time for this. We don't have time for this. We are only wasting your time and ours. The more we waste, the more Androids deviate. And I don't need that, " Kara said loudly.
"They are already deviant. But what I want to see is if you're one as well, " Kamski arranged Kara so she was holding a gun to the Android's head, "Pull the trigger and I'll tell you all I know. Or don't, and leave here with haven't learnt anything from me."
"Kara, don't!" Anderson yelled.
"Pull the trigger, Kara."
Kara looked longingly into the Android's eyes. Those blue ocean eyes. Begging for life.
Her finger curled around the trigger. Ready to fire. Three words played in her head.
Was it true? No, it couldn't be. She's a machine. Incapable of feeling.
Kara held her breath and jerked her finger back. Sending a bullet right in between the Android's eyes. Blue liquid gushed out.
"Fuck!" Anderson cursed and stormed off.
"Test negative. You feel no empathy, you're not a deviant." Kamski took the gun and set it down, "Now, what do you want to know?"
"I want to know where Jericho is."
"Jericho. A place where androids are free, " He motioned towards another Android, "It'll give you the key to Jericho."
Kara connected her hand to the calling hand in front of her.
Kara hid her face low in her beanie. The heavy dark jacket weighing down her shoulders. The metal weapon dancing in her hands.
Voices were heard in the captains quarters. Soft voices. Almost a whisper. But audible.
"I don't wanna lose you." Were the only words to be heard.
Soon enough, obviously an Android walking out. A slight blush on her face. Doesn't matter.
Kara held the gun in her hands tightly. And walked fiercely into the room.
"I've been ordered to take you alive. But, I will not hesitate to kill you if you don't give me a choice." Kara announced.
Markus slowly turned around, uncrossing his arms, letting them fall to his sides.
"Shoot me then. See what happens. After all, I'm just a machine, right?" Markus challenged.
"Didn't hear me? I've been ordered to take you ALIVE." Kara said the last word with a snarky tone.
"See that's the problem, " He took a few steps forward, "You've been 'ordered' to do so. What, are you just their toy?"
"You know I'm not! I only work with them!"
"Or do you, " He took more steps, "Work for them?"
"No, I don't. I work with them. Do I need to neutralize you right now?" Kara asked.
"Gee, I'm not sure. Should you? Or are you deviant?" Markus asked slyly.
"Wait a minute, " Markus looked at her, "You're Kara, aren't you? That famous deviant hunter. Well, looks like you found what you were looking for."
"Indeed, I did. Now, come with me before I kill you!"
"Funny. You're funny. Tell me, you've never questioned who you actually are? A machine taking orders, or something more?"
"I'm not a deviant. How many times must I tell you?"
