Sometimes I forget that next to demon hunting, Nero actually basically has become a mechanic...I wish Capcom would've shown more.
Devil May Cry 5 - RE engine facial capture appreciation
This is one of my favourite scenes in 5, because it's that turning point for Nero. Additionally, it is one of the times where the RE engine's facial capture goes to it's maximum. As someone who grew up with games evolving it is so fascinating to see actual human emotion in our video game characters, when I grew up with 2D, spaceship shooting games and owned 8bit games from the 70s and 80s. In my opinion, it is so well done! From the confusion, to the shock, processing the information and then realizing them. What Johnny Yong Bosch, who does Nero's voice and mo-cap tried to convey through the motion capturing, went so much into the game. Maybe that is why I love this game so much. I can feel with it, because the emotions are so apparent; they feel real and human.
Of course we all knew RE engine is a beast, but it is something I just came to think of today. Honestly, at first I was only fangirling in that scene as usual...but then I realized what else is the reason I love it so much. And this is not the only moment in DMC5 where the facial expressions are incredible detailed.
