Today's funguary and the neat looking Devil's cigar.
Funguary - Week 2: Devil's Cigar (Chorioactis geaster)
🍄 the fruit body opening is accompanied by a hissing sound and a smoky cloud of spores.
Funguary, Day 11 - Devil's Cigar 🍄
So I knew I wanted to draw a caterpillar smoking a giant mushroom, inspired by both the name and Alice in Wonderland - the original idea was simpler than the final drawing, but this was a case where I just kept going and building it up as I went along, and this time, I'm glad I did lol The initial sketch was drawn using the 55 degrees Sailor fude fountain pen, which was not a great choice in retrospect, and then the only Copic Ciao alcohol marker colours I used were several brown shades for the mushroom; then the mushroom was glazed with Faber-Castell Polychromos coloured pencils, followed by using the coloured pencils to add smoke; then I had a lot of fun using the black coloured pencil, first to add dirt on the outside of the mushroom, which then turned into smoke and shadows, and finally demonic visions in the smoke lol; Posca white paint markers were used for the light edges and cracks in the mushroom, though the white leans too cool for the warm colours again.
Funguary Day 11: Devil's Cigar
Also called the chorioactis and the Texas star, this mushroom is only found in certain areas in Texas and Japan. It grows on dead wood, and its fruit body somewhat resembles a cigar before it splits open into a star shape with four to seven points. This split is accompanied by a hissing sound and the release of a smoky cloud of spores.
