Great Lakes Brewery Project x August 11 2011
Last night I met up with a bunch of other Toronto Beer Lovers for the Great Lakes Breweries monthly Project X.
For Project x Great Lakes Brewing tries out different ideas and types of beer. Some times offering a casked version of one of their established brands. The theme last night was Miami Vice to celebrate the LCBO launch of their Miami Weiss American wheat beer. The pink flamingos on the lawn were a great touch.
It was a perfect cool summer night. Nicely done chicken and a bean and guacamole salad and lots of beer. I managed to avoid my usual habit of going for the darkest heaviest beer first and went for the Miami Weiss cask. It was nice and fun as it changed as we went though the cask. The colour or intensity of flavour seemed slightly different as we went.
The next beer was the Blonde Jäger Bomb. This was light and smooth. Though it seemed a bit like a cooler after having the more textured Weiss and following it up with the collaboration pale ale. Great Lakes and Amsterdam collaborated and mixed the Amsterdam Boneshaker ale with the GLB Devil's Pale ale. Individually I'd not been a fan of either beer. Though the Devil's Pale I had written off years ago well before my palate had evolved into being receptive to hoppier beer flavored beer. Then the Boneshaker, I had managed to give myself alcohol poisoning the night before I tried it. So subconsciously I wasn't fond of either. The two mixed worked well and being hoppier and heartier it was a nice compliment to the Miami Weiss. As always Project x was a good night out.
But, Don't take my word for it. Drink the beer!
