solstice drink to share with Freyr and Jolnir --

tea (a bit of rose congou, maybe a teaspoon of vanilla bean-infused yunnan, a couple teaspoons assam)

honey (local wildflower)

dollop of heavy cream

maybe a quarter-oz orange cognac (bauchant)

bit less than an oz of bourbon (four roses)

serve hot and bask

Tonight’s cocktail: things that remind me of Freyr, and taste like saving up summer warmth against a winter’s night

1 oz figcello, or other warm summer-fruit liqueur

1/2 oz bourbon

1/2 oz tuaca

dash of tawny port

dash of spiced chocolate bitters

cracked allspice berries

honey

Crack a couple of allspice berries with a mallet or mortar and pestle. Do not do more than crack them! Combine in the bottom of a small pan or a heat-safe cup with bourbon, tuaca, bitters, and figcello. Warm either in microwave or on stove juuuust long enough to get the honey to dissolve. Add a dash of tawny port and top with an ounce or so of boiling water. Sip slow, snuggle the Hearth/Harvest deity of your choice, and remember the summer days that were and will be again.
