One of the things that gets me about the ending to the Demon Path -- either ending -- is that moment right before the last battle. Revya’s allies are either dead or have escaped her, and the different conflicting factions of the land have united against her. Her best friend is dead, and it’s something that actually still seems to matter to her, at least for a moment. On the other hand, her last ally is the Reaper Gig, who has come to truly care about her, and she’s already considering the actions she’ll take should she survive the final battle.
It’s very dark, and Revya, with you behind her, stands there alone and empty, a monster about to take on the entire world.
Gig is here~!
A demi-god, huh? However have you ended up here? Oh well, irrelevant. You’ll make a great source of nutritions for Shandrii anyway.
As for your mate, no unfortunate enough soul has arrived yet to share an apartment with you, so enjoy your solitude in Sleuthhound Quarter #5 while it lasts.

Good Omens by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman. It’s really funny!
