Not Who He Asked For

He was not who he asked for.

But at this point Frederick was sure no one cared or listened to him anymore. Not that they ever did before. And that was why it was so perfect, wasn't it? Hannibal had planned this from the very beginning since they met, he was sure.

And now, here he was, months later after nearly dying a second time, behind the bars of his own hospital with the man who should be behind bars staring back at him. All Chilton could think about was how he was in Will Grham's shoes. He never knew how completely helpless one would feel in a situation like this.

But maybe Frederick should just stop caring .He trusted Will. He would show everyone Hannibal was the Chesepeake Ripper, clear his name...

If he lived long enough to see that headline. After all, Hannibal had gotten Abel Gideon.  Frederick wasn't safe in his very own hospital, one that felt more like his home than the home he had returned to that day.

Could almost taste the phantom residue of chloroform as he stared back at Hannibal. His jaw twitched, stung. Nerve damage but not as severe as the damage done to his spine. Without physical therapy he'd be lucky if he could get around anywhere with his cane.

Eventually, though, Chilton didn't want to be a coward here. He'd done enough running and hiding. He kept his gaze locked on Lecter. "Hannibal. I distinctly remember that I asked for Will."

Fingers bunched into the fabric of his prisoner slacks. He was stil; terrified but he didn't want to show it. But Hannibal could smell it, couldn't he? He wasn't human, no. Not even a psychopath or sociopath. Hannibal was a creature no one had come up against before. Oh, if only their positions were switched right now. How much Chilton wanted to poke at that brain.

Right now, though, Frederick also hoped Hannibal wasn't going to literally poke and cook his brain.
