Burning Bright
@devoutpriest
With a considerable amount of hesitance Lucy ascended the steps of the colossal structure. Her shawl was wrapped tight around her in an effort to block out the bitter cold. Her gaze climbed the facade of the building, ending with a sight of the crucifix silhouetted against the moon. She soon faced the doors of the building and felt a shudder run through her.
What was she even doing here? God had damned her since the day she was born there had been many a helpless night where she needed him, begged for him, and was met with silence. God didn't care for her. Still though she felt inexplicable urge to go inside; even if it were only for a moment.
She drew in a slow breath then pushed open the doors to the cathedral, the first thing she noticed was the warmth that immediately enveloped her and the wonderful smell of incense burning at the alter. She closed the door behind her and walked forward, the clicks of her heels on the marble floors echoing through the space and disturbing the stillness.
