Story:
They were good parents. At least, that’s what Robinmask believed for the longest time. They laughed with her, spent meaningful time with her. But there were those moments where her mother or father would make her upset, and when that happened, she would remember all the times before then in which they left her disheartened.
She remembered the many times she, as a kit, ran crying to her mother because Waspkit had once again teased her, only for her mother to say nothing but ‘just ignore him,’ or ‘go away, I don’t care,’ if she was in a really bad mood.
She remembered all the times her mother somewhat supported her sexuality, positive for it but with many moments of ‘well, it might change in the future,’ and ‘maybe you won’t always be like that, don’t close off your options.’
And when either of them made her upset, they would get upset with her reaction, becoming angry instead of apologizing or simply discussing it with her.
Her father was annoying in a different way, easily angered as well, but when he noticed he made Robinmask upset, his attempts to soothe her only had the opposite affect. He would make jokes that would make her cringe, say words and make sounds that made her misophonia spark.
And it felt as though he wasn’t trying to make Robinmask feel better to make Robinmask feel better, but to please Marigoldfur.
With every moon, it felt like the bad moments outweighed the good, that the happy times were blips.
That is why she let her mother die.
It wasn’t intentional, not really. But when in the midst of battle, she saw her mother surrounded by three warriors, her paws were rooted by indecisiveness. Save her or don’t. In the end, she didn’t.
Part of her had feared she would come to regret the choice, that her grief would become worse with her guilt, that she would remember all the good times and forget the bad.
Unfortunately, that is exactly what happened. Now, she could only remember how loving Marigoldfur had been, how caring, and how devastated she must surely be in Starclan because of the daughter she had loved.
When it came to her father, she figured she was putting him out of his misery, or maybe that was just an excuse so that she didn’t have to see him or his despondence any more and relive what she had let happen.
He would be happy to see his mate again.
When he fell sick, she offered to bring his medicine, only to subtly swallow it herself on the way there and pretend to feed him. He was too delirious already to notice. Sure, it made her nauseous, but it was worth it.
Unable to bear her own thoughts, she always kept herself distracted, working harder than anyone to hunt, fight, repair the dens, or do pretty much anything at all. Inadvertently, the hard work would earn her position as deputy.
Having the position itself lasted quite a while, only ending when Robinmask’s paw slipped from beneath her during a battle, and an enemy’s claws, aiming for her face, instead slashed across her neck.

--Were her parents actually okay, or is she simply upset because, abusive or not, it’s the only parental relationship she had?
