“We’re here,” Shadow announced.
Bunny dropped the tip of his wing that she was delicately holding in her mouth as he guided her, and sniffed the air. “Oh! Bread and cakes and is that…jam? Are we in the kitchen?”
“We are!” Shadow chirped, fluttering his wings excitedly. “This is the most magical place in the whoooole bakery.”
“Usually when I’m hungry, I ask Kes to bring me something.”
“Ah, but sometimes Kes is busy, like right now! They’re talking with Luna, and we are two starving dragons, so we need to take matters into our own paws! Can you tell where the smell of fresh cakes is strongest?”
Bunny lifted her nose into the air and sniffed. “Mmmm. Up on the counter to the right.”
“Those are the cooling racks! Depending on how big the counter is, which you should always check, we’ll want to end up about half a wing’s length away. Don’t want to end up climbing onto the cakes!”
Bunny nodded, continuing to sniff as she carefully felt along the base of the counter with her tail to judge its length before positioning herself to climb. “This good?”
Behind her, Shadow cocked his head, looking up and down with an expert eye. “A little to the left…perfect! Do you need a boost?”
“I should be okay to start climbing, but I may need help closer to the top?”
“Okay! I’ll see you up there!” Shadow chirped, a small poof of wind indicating to Bunny that he had taken off, before she dug her claws into the counter to start climbing. The smell grew stronger and more heavenly as she climbed higher and a small chirp preceded a tail being dangled just in front of her, which she gently took in her mouth and she and Shadow combined their efforts to pull her over the top.
“Oooh, that smells so nice…but would I get into trouble?”
“Consider this,” Shadow pointed out. “You’ve earned it.”
“I have earned it,” Bunny agreed, Shadow’s very compelling argument prompting her to turn to where she could smell some chocolate muffins and begin munching away.
“Oh dear,” said Kestrel, trying very hard to contain their laughter.
“Shadow!” Luna covered her face with her hands. “You are a terrible influence!”
On the counter, the two baby dragons froze on either side of a cheesecake, their mouths open in preparation to take a bite, and shooting the two humans the most innocent looks they could, which would have been more convincing had they not been surrounded by four decimated cooling racks.
“Kes, I am so sorry,” Luna continued. “Whatever you want is on the house.”
“Very kind of you,” Kes chuckled. “Honestly, I’m glad that Bunny has made a new friend, even if he has taught her crimes.”
“We were starving!” Shadow added helpfully.
“…Shadow you ate ten minutes ago!”
“That’s a long time for baby dragons!”
A laugh managed to escape Kes before they cleared their throat. “Sorry, sorry…but it is funny. Hey, are those currant buns? Maybe…I could take those when I next see my niece and…and my brother-”
Unfortunately for Kestrel, they would not be taking the currant buns as Bunny immediately turned and began pointedly eating them.
For @pantsless-glowboy-stan who requested: baby dragon shenanigans. first thought was shadow and bunny (maybe he's teaching her to do crime)’
