Whats your opinion of steam df? Seems you favor the old version more
The Steam/Itch release of Dwarf Fortress is awesome! The graphics make the game many times more accessible to new players and the user interface is more intuitive to people who are familiar with other simulation games. The main reason is that my machine doesn't run Windows so until the SDL2 comes out it's a lot more convenient for me to continue playing 47.05
There are a few other things that I prefer about the old version:
Adventure mode - allows me to explore worlds as an individual. Some people play Dwarf Fortress entirely in adventure mode.
Stairs - The way the new version handles stairs makes cavern exploration a teensy bit more dangerous. It also makes some of my more esoteric stair designs impossible. But the new version a lot easier to use.
Modding - Graphics are a double-edged sword. Yeah, it doesn't take long if your just adding in a new creature, but if you've an overhaul like the Long Night mod it's just not possible.
These are my thoughts at the moment. It SDL compatibility and adventure mode are coming in the next release so I'll probably move over after that.
