love request (shinee cut)
it's a delicate situation. one wrong word, and there could be pointed fingers at shinee or the show itself. people often roll their eyes when news articles applaud celebrities for donating money or taking a short trip to developing countries or needed causes. but for both, my answer is the same: it is always better to do something than nothing. a journalist writes about a cause, a volunteer works for the cause, a celebrity alerts people to the cause. one is not 'better' or 'worse' than another. if you're doing with the best of your ability what you can, that's the only thing anyone can ask for.
sure, shinee is following a tight script. you can see taemin holding his cue card, and each member knew exactly what to talk about. sure, they've edited it to wring tears out of the viewer. sure, even key moving to hold the mother's hand could have been under orders. but that doesn't change the fact it's doing good things, that these people who wanted this news to get out is able to receive donations from viewers - viewers who are also doing the best they can to help someone.
shinee didn't have to go on this show. jessica didn't have to visit a sick male fan. kim hyun joong didn't have to repeatedly donate anonymously to good causes. but they did it. even if it was for camera time, for respect from the fickle korean audience, they still did it. and it helps -- especially when it makes the fans active. like how recently as revealed on strong heart ksones have a volunteer group for those suffering from retinitis pigmentosa (a disease sooyoung's father has, and four members of snsd work as ambassadors for), and i-sones collect funds. how instead of wreaths many fanclubs now donate rice. i could go on and on.
