Replies by @LongLukeArnold: Thanks for the question, Jay! I thought that it gave some insight into how Fetch viewed the adventure he was embarking on. He wanted to embrace the idea of a fantastical quest, and I imagine that many readers would have wanted the same thing…
So it was about the desire to be on a more epic, heroic tale.
I like that some readers didn’t register them at all. But I mostly love that - even if you don’t notice them beginning, you still feel their absence when they end
