You know, I am still here...

I had to get an eye test on the weekend.

I failed but we can talk about that later. Some of what's wrong can be corrected by specific lens.

The lady helping me at some point said 'it's hard for me to hear you' and pointed at her hearing aids, which I hadn't noticed 'so if I don't respond, I'm not ignoring you and I'm not asking you to take your mask off. I just want to let you know.'

At which point me response was 'oh, people who can hear have the same problem and they're nowhere near as nice about it.'

And like my eyes, there is more going on with my speech than just muffling from a mask. But I'm back next week for a hearing test (which I will likely also fail) and just the gentle way she approached this with disclosure and facts made me so much more comfortable in what could have been quite an upsetting day.
