Hearst Tower on 57th and 8th. The six-story Art Deco base was designed by Joseph Urban and commissioned by newspaper magnate William Randolph Hearst. Competed in 1928 the base was originally designed to support a skyscraper, but the Great Depression halted any immediate construction. Almost 80 years later Norman Foster designed a 46-story #diagrid skyscraper to rise above the base. The unique structural ribbing on queen cells always blows me away.
