Dia Jenet for the EGOT
Conversation w/ Dia Jenet. Brooklyn, NYC/2019
I had been in Dia Jenets orbit for a while before we became friends. Over 2 years, I got to know her some, mostly through conversations about what keeps us up at night when we aren’t working to keep the lights on. I learned about her work in music, acting, screen play writing, directing and other works she had on the burners. I asked where she found the time, she told me, she just did..she’s a native New Yorker. It’s in her DNA. As someone who struggled with creative ebbs, I recognized this interaction, now friendship, a gift in inspiration. Artists can be sensitive about their work, creative space, motivation or collaboration. Dia seemed to embrace openness and that intimidated me, in a good way. She made doing what you love, simple. Just do it. It is that simple. I had a conversation with her about a year ago to discuss drive, inspiration and collaborations. She made it clear to put yourself in places that allow you to learn, and be ok with learning from others. A healthy perspective that resonates with me. She’s definitely on her way to knock a few letters off the EGOT acronym. Her short film/music video ‘Over/Under’ screened at Slamdance Film Festival and Ann Arbor, the largest experimental and avant-garde film festival in North America. She is co-founder of the psych band Dhrift, whose interactive projects have been featured in the New York Times, and studied acting at T. Schreiber and HB Studio. On her way for sure.
Audio Conversation with Dia Jenet “Dia Jenet, musician, director, producer, Brooklyn shaker and much more. Shared some thoughts on following your passion and in some case passions, looking inward to find that truth and other goodSTUFF over an Arnold Palmer and Coffee at Bedford Hill Cafe in Brooklyn's Bedstuy neighborhood.”
