Diamond School • Mighty Melee
Just because they are small does not mean these tiny, sparkly, perfect stones are easy to create- even Melee must abide by the 4C’s!!!
True they are often the remnants of stones Cut from larger crystals, but putting 58 facets on crystal chip that is 1mm in size is an exacting task. Once cut, the stones must be sorted to lots of exact sizes, down to points of millimeters, which are then given Carat weight designation. Lastly the Melee will be Color graded and sorted by Clarity - with the end result being lots of White, Champagne, Black and Grey diamonds.
A Toast to ALL your Champagne Diamond Dreams
Diamond School • Diamond Dust
Melee is a term used to describe tiny faceted Diamonds. Remarkably these gems, which are smaller than the head of a pin and weigh less than .18 carats each, can be brilliant cut just as large diamonds are with a full 58 facets. We fondly refer to these itty bitty beauties as DIAMOND DUST.
Once set into our jewelry with tiny bead prongs, often referred to as pavé setting, the delicate sparkle of the Melee Diamond is fully apparent.

Pink Petal-y Pretties
A tapered halo of champagne diamonds accentuates the graceful pear shaped grey moonstone which is oriented point down, like a flower petal, in these Rosette earrings- a refined and slightly subverted classic to add to your collection.

Diamonds on the Snow
This stunner Hazeline with extended pavé - or what we like to call Diamond Dust- down the further compliment that magnificent center Diamond and the snow white magic of the Sierra mountain landscape in which is was presented.
From HK to NYC|| The Story of the Five Stone Bea
"I would love to have something that is elegant but has a bit of refined attitude. (which is why I was drawn to Anna's designs when I was doing my research)". This excerpt from Mark’s first email sent from Hong Kong to our offices in New York City seemed right on target for the kind of bespoke rings I had just started making with the launch of the Engagement collection.
The emails led to sketches and stories shared between us, until we settled on ‘The One’. This one-of-a-kind Five Stone Bea is what I would call a whopper of a ring. It would span the top of the finger with a nearly seamless set of White Diamonds and just the beautiful Bea prongs in between them. I would make them vaulted -so to speak- so the stones instead of all being flat across the top would curve in the ring setting and mimic the curve of the finger. They taper from the side of the Emerald cut to the Trapezoid to the Trillions. The ring could be 'iced' in delicate pavé on the gallery of the setting and the signature Bea end-tab prongs. This could be the delicate and glorious last step. Its so lovely when we do the hand- set mirco-pavé here in Manhattan. The shimmer is unreal.
When Mark came to pick up the ring in our atelier he left us with this note “....your designs have a beautiful symmetry of intricacy with elegance and a nod towards traditional with attitude. (a confident feminine attitude, which is how I see my love)". And that’s it, in a Diamond Dusted nutshell!
Layers of Lovely
Why not pair a Bea Black Diamond with a New Moon AND a Hammered Calligraphic Band? Two may very well be better than one when it comes to layering bands.
