There's this post going around and I just thought to add to it in this own post here, where I think it's relevant too.

Please watch out for yourself when paying for donos, gifted subs, and all sorts of cosmetics when watching large streamers on sites like Twitch and Youtube.

If you're sending streamers money to support them and their content, that's awesome. But if you're sending streamers excessive amounts of your money and find yourself regretting it after, this is your wake up call to stop and think hard about your money's worth.

Especially from what I've seen in the mcyt community, it feels a lot like fandom, but on a pay2win basis where the more you pay, the better chance you get at an interaction from streamers at all. Because the nature of this medium is so immersive, it's so easy to donate an easy $50 without thinking too hard about it. And I'm sure many of us are familiar with the term 'parasocial relationships' at this point. Streamers - as well meaning and friendly as they can be - do not know you. You may also feel pressured to join a paid-for community with exclusive perks, where it appeals to social desire. Systems like these can get really exploitative of those who struggle with impulse control, loneliness, depression, addiction, etc.

You, the viewer, need to make sure you're taking care of your personal matters first and foremost. Are you sending streamers money that really could go into your groceries, meds, tuition, booking a therapist, etc? Let's get your money to what matters first before we set up a hard budget for entertainment. Even then, the content you get is completely free. You could step down a sub tier. You could tell yourself it's okay to miss that Hype Train or Limited Merch drop. Watch some ads. Rely on Primes. If you don't spend a single cent, your support is still as valuable as the next guy's.

And if you still keep going over budget?

Stop watching.

Take some space away from that environment and do something else before you blow money you need on someone who will most probably be alright without it.

Remember Gabriel's line in Pretension, "You think you have a choice, but all you have is the illusion of choice, and I decide what choices are given to you."

In this speech, which is incredibly brilliant, he references how the fashion industry generates desire. According to him, consumers don't actually choose what they want to wear, not really. He implements the marketing tactic of "generating a need" for his products, by advertising this image of attractive, inactive, "freedom" and creating this illusion that it is desireable. This is most prominent when he creates the need for the Alliance rings by giving them nightmares, and then having his rings present the solution. (A perfect example of how social media is meant to simultatneously agitate and pacify the masses, and our attention is a commodity they bank off of. Brilliant.)

Basically, by placing people under this lie, they are not actually free.

And it's so painfully, wonderfully ironic that Adrien tells Marinette that he makes her feel so free, and yet, by her lying to him about his father, and lying by omission about him being a sentimonster, he is still trapped under this lie. Ultimately, he's only free to be with her. She's done this before as Ladybug to Chat Noir as a guardian, and she's done it again with Adrien.

It's tragic, but Marinette has become Gabriel in the sense of power over him.

Now, here are my hopes for season 6:

I hope Marinette and Adrien learn that he is a bit too reliant her for happiness (referencing his form, when he says he doesn't know what he wants other than to be with Marinette). I hope they recognize that him not knowing who he is runs deep in the lies that his loved ones feed him, and his gaslighted self has just latched on to any slightly positive influence in order to repress any sense of cognitive dissonance he's had. I hope they both learn that in order for Adrien to be free, he can only be freed by the truth, as painful as it may be.

And something I'm very excited for is the direction akumatization is going - characters can feel bad and hurt, but they can still reject akumas. This might mean that Adrien can absolutely break down and have complex, deep emotions, and he frees himself from the need to repress them.

Honestly, when Astruc said that Adrien was Ken and Ladybug was Barbie, he wasn't wrong.
