Diane Shawcroft and Jennifer Lueth
Diane Shawcroft, 20-years-old, and Jennifer Lueth, 19-years-old, were best friends who lived together with Diane's older sister, Kristina, in Arizona. On 24th May 1996, the pair left the apartment and went to a local mini-mart, they didn't take many possessions other than cash and arrived at the shop at around 7 pm.
Diane sometimes spelt Diana on other sources, and Jennifer purchased cigarettes and soda drinks and sat on a bench outside. An unidentified man in a blue pickup truck drove up next to the girls and began talking to them after a few minutes both young women got into the truck and were never seen again.
Three months later two bodies were found in a remote desert 100 miles north of Phoenix, the bodies were found to belong to Diane and Jennifer and it was confirmed the friends had been murdered. The area the bodies were dumped in was extremely isolated.
Soon after the discovery of the corpses, Diane and Jennifer's parents made a shrine to their daughters, placing crosses and photographs of the girls at the site. Four years later, on 29th September 2000, police found that the photographs had been removed from their frames. Police believe the killer may have stolen the photos as the location was never released to the public.
No official suspects have ever been made and due to the investigation being ongoing few details have been released to the public. Police believe the killer was very familiar with the area the bodies were found and that he may have hunted or camped there. Investigations into the man in the blue pickup truck have not found any leads but Diane and Jennifer's parents believe the girls probably already knew the man who abducted them and that he may not have been working alone. The man was, at the time, described as 31-33 years old with dark blonde or brown hair, facial hair and scratches on his right arm.
In 2010, a new analysis was done on a strand of hair and fibres collected from the crime scene in the hope that the evidence will one day help identify the killer.
