DIARY OF A PROVINCIAL LADY, told as a year's worth of journal entries, is a book of two levels. On one, it is a quaint tale of rural British life in the late 1920s. On the other, commentary on British and foreign classes. The narrator is an upper-middle-class housewife who gets into hilariously awkward situations while trying to do nice things for those around her. I couldn't help but make comparisons to BRIDGET JONES' DIARY. Both are written in diary entries, both have neurotic and endearing narrators, and both have unfulfilling social lives. There are even similar scenes involving dress codes and fancy dress parties. I can't help but believe that Helen Fielding had read E.M. Delafield's books. 📚❤️✍ #books #read #reading #bookish #booklover #booknerd #bibliophile #diaryofaprovinciallady #emdelafield #bridgetjonesdiary #helenfielding #fictionaldiary #provinciallife #classnovels #socialcommentary #bookstagram #booksofinstagram #twee
