(Left to Right) Dick Groat and Bob Gibson celebrate winning the 1964 World Series

With Tony Kubek of the New York Yankees sliding toward second base, the Pittsburgh Pirates shortstop Dick Groat threw to first base for a double play during a World Series game against the Yankees in October 1960. Pittsburgh went on to win the series in 7 games - the team’s first in 35 years / Associated Press
Dick Groat, one of Major League Baseball’s leading shortstops of his time, is pictured here batting for the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1962. He helped take the team to its first World Series championship in 35 years in 1960 by defeating the New York Yankees. In that same year, he won the National League’s batting championship and Most Valuable Player Award.
In 1964, he anchored the infield for the St. Louis Cardinals when they won the World Series. And he was a five-time All-Star.
Just wonderful. And having Steve share the news was so very special.
I'm suddenly addicted to saying Dick Groat over and over again, in different accents.
