the love square
An AU where Dick and Donna are siblings and children of homophobic parents, where Dick dates Roy and Donna dates Kory, but at family gatherings they switch to pretend to be straight.
I wish you’d write a fic where someone from the dickkorydonnaroy square tries to explain their dynamic!!
Like a goofy ‘this is my boyfriend’s boyfriend, who is also my platonic soulmate, who is also dating my girlfriend’ kind of thing :D
YOUR WISH IS MY COMMAND! thank u for the ask and i hope it brings you some joy <3
Tim has a notebook. It hasn't helped yet, but he's sure if he gets enough information for another, newer diagram, surely this will all start making sense. He's only known he's bisexual for about a month, and he's realized that his understanding of "poly" didn't even begin to cover what the Titans have going on.
"One more time?" Tim asks, looking up at Dick. Dick has never been able to say no to him when he pulls out the big guns (puppy dog eyes). "Just so I understand?"
"I'm just not sure why you need to know." Dick being cagey about this relationship is not new. It's also why Tim hasn't been able to fill out almost anything in the last quadrant of his diagram. "I mean... what Kory and I have going on isn't really... you know..."
"So it's just you and Kory?" Tim asks, pen already moving.
"Tim!"
"Just trying to be thorough," Tim says, drawing an arrow from Dick to Kory. "And she's dating you back, right? It's not one-sided dating?"
"What's one-sided dating?"
Tim points to an arrow he's drawn between Roy and Kory, where the arrow starts at Roy and goes to Kory. Unlike most of the other arrows, this one is one-sided. "This. Roy's dating Kory, but Kory isn't dating Roy."
"Did Roy tell you that, or Kory?"
"Yes."
Dick rubs at his forehead. "Did Roy say we're all just dating each other?"
"No. He said you and him are dating, you and Kory are dating, and he and Kory are dating, and Donna and Kory are dating, and he and Donna are dating, but you and Donna aren't dating." Tim taps his pen against each of the lines, which he thought had been pretty clear. "See? It's the one in red ink."
Dick is lost. He doesn't say so, but his face must show it, because Tim continues to explain.
"But then Kory said that you and her were married but open, and that she and Donna were dating, and that you and Roy were dating, and that you and Donna weren't dating."
"How is that different?"
"Kory doesn't think she and Roy are dating, but Roy thinks they are."
"Right. So you split the difference. One-sided dating."
Tim beams. Dick resists the urge to jump out the window. "Exactly! Anyway. Donna said you and Roy were dating and you and Kory were married and she and Roy were dating and-"
Dick follows several lines back and forth, that generally match Kory's, except they're highly detailed and also...
"Why is Wally here?"
"Oh. He's dating Donna and also you."
"I'm- But he and I aren't-"
Tim's eyes get bigger, and he prepares himself to scratch out the line he'd drawn for Donna. "Yes?"
Dick drags a hand down his face. Then, grudgingly, he sighs and picks up a blue sharpie. "Give me that thing."
Tim, for some reason, squints and holds it out of Dick's reach. "You're not going to do anything to it, are you?"
"No," Dick lies. "It's fine. I'm just gonna add my part."
"I have copies," Tim warns him, and hands Dick the sharpie. "If you destroy it, I'll just come back with another tomorrow. So you might as well steer me straight."
Dick sighs. For now, he puts aside his dreams of destruction, and grudgingly draws an arrow between him and Kory. However, as he gets to the rest of it, the diagram makes his head swim.
Because yeah. He is married to Kory. But only sort of. And he was Donna's first kiss. And he and Roy only have one type of sex and intimacy. And there was that time when he and Donna woke up next to each other, but Kory has sworn up and down that they didn't actually have sex, and she would know since she carried them both to bed, and also Dick and Donna both have legal rights to Lian if Roy dies, and Roy's asked for a threesome with Kory no less than sixteen times, and Kory and Donna are technically married on that moon they went on vacation to last year, and-
Dick looks up to Tim with a haunted look on his face. "When you make copies of this, can you send them to me?"
Tim nods sagely. "Make sure your notes are detailed, okay?"
With that, Dick heaves a huge sigh, and starts to scribble down the clearest information he can muster.

ROY. DONNA
DID YOU KNOW?
DC broke barriers in the 80s by announcing its first polyamorous couple, composed of Batman's former sidekick, Dick Grayson, still as Robin, the exiled princess of Tamaran, Starfire or Koriand'r, the half-time photographer, half-time superhero Donna Troy, and DC Comics' favorite family man and its best rehabilitated Roy Harper.
