Art doesn't always have to be something made, it can be something found. Artistry and inspiration exist in almost any "thing" if we slow down and pay attention. My project is an act of creative observation, a slowing down of all the words swirling around me, all of the time. Maybe it's our fast paced constant communication channels that are responsible for replacing my love for words with emojis (guilty) or absorbing 24-hour news cycles that use words like weapons, but I am yearning for some perennial truths. I have a current aversion to rhetoric and cynicism. I really want to focus on words that matter, words that are true, and I want to honor them in a creative way. Where did I find the simple truth of things? A dictionary. In my opinion the dictionary is a work of art. A perfect blend of fact, creativity, inspiration, and history. The words we choose matter, so for 100 days I'm going to carry a pocket dictionary (I bought it at a Goodwill for $1) and scan the pages for one piece of #foundpoetry within the dictionary every day. #100daysoffoundpoetry #the100dayproject #wordsmatter #websterismyhomeboy #dictionarypoetry #dictionary #wordsofwisdom
