So today I read this fic and it got me inspired and two hours later I spit Open mouth, insert — (Foot, sire, I meant FOOT!)

Where Merlin's a pure soul and Uther chose to hear the worst possible version and now Arthur's traumatised and embarrassed (and still oblivious), thank you.

And now I'm adding a snippet because if I have to be subjected to the insanity of my brain, so do y'all.

“If you’re trying to convince me the boy is lying, you’re failing,” Uther said, his voice dripping with contempt. “Your own actions betray you.”

“I’m not saying he’s lying — I’m saying you got it all wrong!”

Merlin looked between the two of them, feeling very much like a doe when seeing two different crossbows pointing at him. He had an inkling that he wasn’t just being called as a witness, but that the conversation was about him. With a terrifying clarity, he remembered the conversation he had had with Uther two days prior, about his amount of chores.

“Sire, it’s alright, I’m happy with my workload,” he tried saying. “It’s back-breaking work but I can take it."

Instead of defusing the situation, it made Uther grow pale, while Arthur was suddenly almost as red as his tunic.

“Merlin — please, please, for all that is sacred—”
