Life as a bouncer could be dangerous, of course. Not only did John put himself in danger inside the club, though he usually had backup there, but he also put himself in danger when leaving. Typically, it wasn’t much of an issue. Someone he bounced was pissed, confronted him on his way back to his place after closing, and someone would wind up in a cell by the end of it. Not always John either, and if it was John, he had enough ins and means to get out quickly.
Typically, someone confronting him was just someone, not someones.
He’d been jumped by several, had to maim two, and possibly killed one since he was pretty certain the body wasn’t breathing when he hid it. He was battered by the end of it, cut up and shot in a few places. He’d managed to stumble home, draw a bath, and plop into it, naked and bleeding.
He hadn’t expected to find that Ze’ev was there, pulling him out of the tub, cleaning his wounds. They didn’t have to follow him home, they didn’t have to come inside and find him in the state he was in. They didn’t have to be there for him, but there they were.
“Aren’t I supposed to be the one taking care of you, pet?” John asked, a smirk shining through his split and bloodied lip.
Life as a bouncer wasn’t easy. Rather like life as an assassin at times. But that didn’t make it any easier to see a loved one exhausted and bleeding in a tub, too tired to clean themselves up at the moment.
But Ze’ev knew how it was. They didn’t blubber or cry. They simply removed the gauzy top their favourite patron gave them and knelt beside the tub to help the captain. They merely lifted him out of the tub with a strength many might not expect from such a lean frame. Their warm hands were gentle in cleaning wounds and applying medigel and bandages.
John’s words had them glance up, then lean in for a soft kiss that was slightly off due to that split in John’s lip. “You take care of me just fine,” Ze’ev reassured John with a slight buzzing undertone from a purr. The same purr that faintly vibrated through blue hands as they touched pale, somewhat golden-toned skin. “But I am happy to take care of you. Be it patching up your wounds or anything else you need. So let me help?”
