Let's talk about Kickstarters
My third Kickstarter is coming up and I'll tell you all something. I still don't know what I'm doing. My first one failed because I asked for too much money (that was probably the main reason, but there were a lot of other reasons too). My second one made goal by 223%. So now I'm about to start the third one and I'm just as worried about this one and feeling like I don't know what I'm doing.
I'd like to start some chats about Kickstarters that others have done and found successful. Or not so much. Let's talk about what we can do to reach goals.
One thing I'd like to start out talking about is this big push to get followers before you even launch. My last Kickstarter I worked 24/7 to get followers. We ended up with over 200 followers before we launched. And less than 20% of these followers actually went and backed the comic.
So why the hard push to rack up followers.
I've heard that you need a lot of followers to have a good Kickstarter. From what I see that's not exactly true. And it makes us want followers that we know aren't going to really back the comic. Let's trade followers with other creators, to make our follower list look bigger. How many of those creators are going to back the comic? Probably not a lot, and I don't say that out of anger, if we all actually backed every comic we followed ahead of time we wouldn't have any money to make comics.
So my question to everyone out there is why do we push so hard for followers? Do they really make a difference? Could we be using that effort and time to find other ways to drive people to our Kickstarter.
I'm hoping people see this and respond. Let's make this a conversation about Kickstarter. Drop you links in the comments as well. Let's help each other.
My Kickstarter that's coming up is ALMA "What if Buffy was a 72 year old Grandmother?"
