Our dietaru stand recieved the most patronage during the 2016 Ohum Festival of Mampong – Akuapem. We interacted with a lot of people and provide dietary guidance and health screening.
The people had one-on-one as well as focused group interactions with the Diet-Therapist of Medicas Hospital. The questions asked reflected the growing awareness of the general Ghanaian populace about healthy eating. Below are some questions that came up during these interactions.
WHAT ARE THE BEST TIMES TO EAT?
An early breakfast around 7-8am, lunch at 12-1pm and supper around 5-6pm is generally advised. Note however that based on work schedule and nutritional status, this may vary for every individual.
CAN I EAT FUFU AFTER 4PM?
Well, of course. Just make sure it is at least 2 hours before you go to bed. Also walk around your house at least once after your meal.
CAN I EAT AFTER 5PM?
Please note that there should be at least two hours between the time you go to bed and your last meal. Unless there is a medical condition so explained to you by your doctor or dietitian, there is no reason not to eat after 5pm. You will get various food options to choose from when you see your dietitian.
HOW CAN I LOOSE THIS WEIGHT?
You need to get on a weight loss program designed by your dietitian and trainer. Weight loss is successful when you acquire the skill to choose calorie appropriate foods and engage in the right amount of physical activity.
I EAT TWICE A DAY AND WALK A LOT. WHY AM I STILL NOT LOOSING WEIGHT?
People usually over estimate their physical exertions and under estimate food intake. A good example is, walking briskly for 15 minutes will burn 60 calories. One piece of a digestive biscuit will give you 100 calories. People will remember the walk and not the biscuit when recalling activity and food intake.
