So a few days into my first week on Diet-to-Go, I called to cancel all future shipments. I told the customer service rep that I just didn’t think the quality of the food was on par with the cost. Basically, the value just wasn’t there. She said that she’d never heard that before. Good thing we were on the phone so she couldn’t see my eyes rolling.
If you weren’t keeping count, I had a total of 15 meals. If I were planning to continue this diet, 7 of the meals I would order again, 7 I definitely wouldn’t, and 1 I might consider if there were no good substitutes. Two of the meals I couldn’t even finish. For the same price per meal, I could eat out and enjoy all of my meals. Granted, that probably wouldn’t help me to lose weight. But I just feel like there’s got to be a better alternative...dieting shouldn’t have to be gross 50% of the time. Anywho, here’s a quick list of pros and cons in case you’re considering Diet-to-Go:
Nice to have all the food for the week delivered
Didn’t have to spend time shopping/planning what to eat
7 of the meals were tasty
I don’t normally eat breakfast, so this was a nice change
Easy to navigate app and website
Cost ($9.60/meal undiscounted price including shipping)
Definitely not “restaurant quality” food as advertised. A majority of the meals were blah at best
The state of the packaging after opening the box didn’t leave a good impression. The ice packs had fully melted and the boxes were all soggy
The lack of cooking instructions. A lot of the boxes just said to heat to a certain internal temperature, but not how long.
The lack of expiration dates on the packing
Overall, to me the negatives outweighed the positives. But also consider that I only sampled 15 of their meals. If I had stuck it out, maybe I would have found several more meals that I liked and been able to create menus entirely comprised of good meals. But again, to me the value just wasn’t there, even with the good meals.
On a side note, when I called to cancel, they actually told me that I had to buy one more week’s worth of food because it had or was already scheduled to ship. I wasn’t upset about this because I thought maybe it’d change my mind after a rough first week of half blah food. Unfortunately, my apartment concierge failed to tell me when it arrived. Three days later, I stopped by the office to pick up another package and there it was. $143 worth of food that had to be thrown out because it’d gone bad. Such a waste. Not Diet-to-Go’s fault, but definitely a flaw in process that you might want to consider when deciding to try it. Maybe making a signature required for delivery would help with this? Either way, maybe it was a sign that Diet-to-Go just wasn’t for me.
Anyway, I hope this detailed review has been helpful. When I was considering different diets, I found some older review blogs of Diet-to-Go that I found helpful, so I just wanted to pay it forward. What’s next in my plan to lose weight? Right now I have no plans, but I’ll keep you posted!
