who am I, part 2
I decided to skip question 2 for the moment and move on to my global environment. I feel like this goes hand in hand with my external environment. Living in Minneapolis, I am exposed to a large number of diverse people, with different backgrounds and values. I think that I have to be conscious in this environment to limit the chances of offending someone and to have an overall better interaction with them. When I was in elementary school, the population of the students was predominantly white. There were a few, Mexicans and even fewer Chinese people. It wasn’t until I was in middle school that we started to have a bigger population of Korean people that came to South Dakota to seek refuge. It was then that l became more aware of my global environment. I began to learn more about their culture and understand why they chose to come to America. I believe this is where I started to show social dimension. In the beginning of chapter 3 in Daft and Marcic, this is a key feature in developing a rounded global mindset, It wasn’t until I came to Minneapolis for college how much diversity I was really missing out on. Throughout life, there is going to be so many people you come in contact with, and odds are, they aren’t going to be anything like you. It is important to have an open mind and be understanding of others and their values in order to have a good relationship for the situation. I think that my understanding of the global environment is continuing to grow and becoming a helpful tool in the situation of life.
