For a long time Frankie Cosmos was a project of high output and middling quality, and now they’ve switched that around. Different Talking produces the best of Greta Kline’s prolific period of 2012-14 – tenderness powerful but delivered so softly it catches you off guard, quirky songwriting perspectives, an extraordinary knack for springing into melody – but with far greater regularity, performed with a tighter band and with greater depth of instrumentation. The best Frankie Cosmos record yet, I reckon.
