Chapter 31: High Quality Asset Challenge
What a marvellous way to surprass chapter 30. I swear. I was eager to upload something new to Sketchfab. I don’t know why, I just wanted to.
So here I come to show you my last creation:
Spooky lamp post by Myrga_eri on Sketchfab
Yeah, I know, I jumped straight to the result before explaining anything. I was just so proud and happy of this little fellow that I wanted to show it as soon as possible, excuse my inner child.
Now, as for explaining, if you want the short version: this project was a quick way to remember step by step what modelling, unwrapping and texturing was about. Just that. A reminder in depth.
The full explanation is somehow more complicated. This new module has changed this year, apparently, and we, the naive players, are the teacher’s guinea pigs.
It turns out that the module is divided in three branches: Environmental track, Character track, and VFX track. And each track has different projects. Similar to some extent, but different when looking at the final result.
Just as their names state, the environmental track is about environments, the character track is about characters, and the VFX is about VFX. Oh wow, kudos for me. I’m smart. To put a practical example, the environmental track had to model a weapon or a post; the character track had to model a piece of armour from a character concept (too early for them to be modelling a full character yet!); and the VFX track had to model a staff and its lighting effects.
As you can see I chose the environmental track, but I wanted to try a bit of the VFX, so I added some lighting effects to my lamp post. Cool right? To be my first attempt at VFX it’s not so bad, I think.
Well, I like it.
So..., that’s it for today. Another project finished. I’m eager to know what awaits me in the environmental track...
