Hi, I saw your posts on eco earth & I was wondering if it's fine to use it for humid hides/dig boxes for leopard geckos?
Yeah, it’s generally okay to use coco fiber in a moist box. For digging boxes people often mix play sand and Eco Earth (coco fiber) roughly 50/50. I suggest putting the hole in the top of the box for digging boxes rather than the side to minimize kicking and tracking!
If you offer coco fiber for a leopard gecko as a digging box or in the humid hide, the important things to keep in mind:
Keep it isolated in an enclosed container with a small door.
Keep it moist (not saturated) so that it doesn’t get dusty.
Make sure your other enclosure parameters are correct, such as temperature.
Make sure the gecko is not feeding in this container (and risking getting mouthfuls of coco fiber).
Other options for humid hide substrate include:
Paper towel
Long fiber sphagnum moss
