Fic Rec: Wait in the Fire by @vvassilychairbymarcelbreuer [ghvsts]

Summary: Castiel considers the fallibility of the human body.

I don't think I should even be legally or morally allowed to talk about this fic, it is so good. Wait in the Fire by seriously my favorite writer ever (fic or otherwise) ghvsts is one of the most desperately beautiful things I've ever read in my life. It's also the reason I won't write Cas POV because how could anyone, ever, after reading this. We desperately need to drag ghvsts back to the Supernatural fic world.

Every word means a hundred other words. It's tagged: The Art of Not Saying What You Mean but it doesn't warn that you should prepare for fireworks exploding in your mouth. This is written in the perspective of light and color and wave lengths and ocean salt and Yosemite and

and I didn't even know how to create an image for this header. There were like fifteen other drafts and I started it like over four weeks ago - some drafts had waterfalls + volcanos and some with ribbon wings + jellyfish and some with clouds + cliffs and one was Eclipse of the Sun in Venice in July 8, 1842 by Ippolito Caffi but how do you compare art to art? And I feel like that all kinda sums up how I feel about Cas and ghvsts.

Wait in the Fire is an incredible showing of Cas' self and all his tangled thoughts over the years and how he sees himself/his vessel/his everything - and it's so good I don't even know how to sum it up. Please read it - please.

Summary: After a hundred years in the pit, he's long past caring about what happens on earth between hunters, angels, whatever. They’re not his kind anymore. “I’m spoiled merchandise,” Dean says finally. “I’m not the droid you’re looking for. I can’t help you. This isn’t my fight. It doesn't matter what your daddy told you.”

I want ghvsts / @digginginthedirt1992 to write every piece of media I ever read, ever. I don't know a more beautiful style of writing. Everything they write is so intentional and nuanced. The heart and humor and amount of work they put into their writing makes me feel like a novice.

This fic feels like I'm reading a poem that kisses me on the cheek one moment and then stabs me in the gut with a rusty knife the next. And what else would you want from it?

then, to lebanon, oh god is a canon divergence in season 4 where Dean comes back from the pit sans the expected angelic help and without his memories - and oh yeah, is a demon. Tons of angst, tons of love. Demonic and cosmic weirdness abound. Ruby is amazing and fucking hilarious, Bobby is Bobby (and therefore incredible), Cas is everything I could ever want. Sam breaks my heart and patches it back up. Dean is eight-tenths snark, one-tenth bleeding heart and one-tenth dripping self-hatred, and wow. The season 4 we deserved and a writer whose heights we'll never see the top of.
