Digital civility at lowest level in 4 years, new Microsoft research shows - Microsoft on the Issues

The Digital Civility Index (DCI), a measure of the tone and tenor of online interactions, stands at its lowest level since the survey began, with emotional and psychological pain increasing significantly, according to Microsoft's latest “Civility, Safety and Interactions Online" study, released in conjunction with international Safer Internet Day 2020.

Good, it’ll thicken some skins.  And it’s not as if there’s an obvious solution, like, say, getting off the internet.

WASHINGTON | Melania Trump listens as students discuss being civil online

WASHINGTON — Melania Trump is listening to teens talk about their best practices for being civil online.

The first lady’s spokeswoman tweeted Thursday that Mrs. Trump is meeting with students at Microsoft’s office in the nation’s capital. Microsoft created a teen council in 2017 to help improve online safety and promote civility.

Digital civility is one element of a nationwide campaign Mrs. Trump announced this year to focus on child well-being.

Her husband is regularly criticized for his own practices online and has weaponized his Twitter account against his foes.

Mrs. Trump discussed the “Be Best” campaign last week during a stop in London.
