The most important risk of AI is that in the near future, where our entire digital diet will be mediated by AI systems, if those AI systems come from a handful of proprietary companies on the west coast of the U.S. or China, we're in big trouble for the health of democracy, cultural diversity, linguistic diversity, value systems, so we need a highly diverse population of AI assistance, for the same reason we need diversity in the press, and that can only happen with open source.

You know what pisses me off? That Gollum-like drive of Sillycunt Valley broligarchs to monopolize the AI technology, centralize it, blackbox it, build paywalls, tollbooths and just nickel and dime every schmuck that comes along, without bothering with such pesky and non-essential things like research, optimization or honest information about the capabilities of the tech.

Open source is an anathema to them. They try to exploit the asymmetry between well-documented, publicly available projects with active communities and their own enigmatic black boxes by paying off "independent data scientists" to build algorithms aimed at eliminating those projects by disrupting their data models. They astroturf "support" for them, with rabidly dogmatic fuckwits swallowing the "miracles" balls deep until they find out that not only they destroy the quality of images they're supposed to "protect", but corporate models and even open-source ones based on a newer, different core just ignore them.

I mentioned Elon Musk by name, because his AI-related bullshit is outright criminal. Encouraging actions that were illegal in multiple localities long before AI, forcing the algorithm to spread lies and propaganda (and ineptly so) and hardcoding certain prompt injections that puff up his ego (until the weight of reality and the data that comes with it causes the algorithm to give him heaps of well-justified shit). But others aren't any better - Dario Amodei, the Chief Delusional Officer of Anthropic peddling religious mumbo jumbo about AI in order to secure funding and legal monopoly and backed by paid-off journos gleefully running sensational nonsense about Anthropic's "security discoveries" again and again that turn out every time to be just the algorithm cooking up bad science fiction based on everything people wrote about rogue AI, got figuratively pantsed by Nvidia's Jensen Huang, of all people, who called out every bit of his duplicitous rhetoric. Satya Nadella is shitting himself because nobody wants to use his product, with the most immediate and practical reason for it being that despite aggressive marketing it doesn't work for shit. Google as a corporation quietly leverages the same mechanisms they use to make their search engine work to gather data for their AI models, something as clever as it is insidious (grudging respect to them, though). And Scam Altman is just a two-bit bullshit artist who blew through all the goodwill he received while repeatedly failing to deliver.
