Chapter 1: Initialization

It had been a few days since the Magi event, and Shinji and Poni were out patrolling the area. After about an hour of patrolling, the pair stop by Poni's cave to relax.

Poni: Another successful patrol eh Shinji?

Shinji: I suppose so...

The trainer replied looking at his phone, which caused some confusion in Poni.

Pon: Hey Shin what's going on? You're normally not so engrossed in your phone...

Shin: I'm sorry I'm just thinking about this chip and the meowth that gave it to us. Remember what happened when I put it in my phone?

Shinji took the computer chip out of his pocket, examining it.

Pon: Yeah! Something about a digital world? Whatever that means...

Shin: Well I've been getting this weird feeling to find out. The chip doesn't seem to hold any viruses and I've tried doing research on it and nothing comes up.

Pon: Huh....

"You say a 'weird Meowth' gave you a chip and talked to you about the Digital World? Uh, maybe I'm bein a bit hasty here, but... don't think that was a Meowth..."

They hesitate for a moment, before pulling out an odd handheld device. It looks like a v-pet of some sort...? They tap away a few buttons on it--- perhaps it's some foreign region's pokedex? An image displays on the screen after some beeps.

"Weird Meowth, Digital World... Now, there are a lot of feline Digimon, but does this maybe look like what gave you that chip thing?"

On the screen is a picture of a Gatomon.

Shin: A..gatomon....?

Shinji asked looking at the picture alongside Poni.

Pon: Well it looks like our mystery gifter for sure, If that's the case then they used a pretty good disguise.

Shin: Hm... That adds up I suppose. But why gave me a portal to the digital world?

Pon: Well you were going through it at the Magi Event. Maybe they wanted to give you something to do. A new adventure ya know? And with the way things are nowadays, I think we could use something like this!

Shinji remains silent, thinking about Poni's words.

Are you sure about using the thing? What if it’s a trap?

Shin: I don't think anyone would go as far as to send a meowth to give me a chip for a trap, besides I've already checked all the possible avenues. This is as safe as it can get.

Do you guys even know anything about the digital world?

Pon: Never heard of it.

Shin: Same here. And nothing comes up in books or web searches. If it does exist then this chip is our one way ticket inside.

(@masked-vee) Mouse tilts their head, looking at the chip Shinji was holding. They then look up at the human boy. "Who was this Meowth?" Mouse signed.

Shin: I dunno. I didn't get their named before they scurried off.

Pon: They didn't look like any meowth I've seen though.

Shin: Could have been some new regional variant we haven't documented before.
